The Game Boy Advance (GBA) is a 32-bit handheld game console developed, manufactured and marketed by Nintendo as the successor to the Game Boy Color. It was released in Japan on March 21, 2001, in North America on June 11, 2001, in the PAL region on June 22, 2001, and in mainland China in 2004.
The GBA boasted significantly improved technical specifications compared to its predecessor, featuring a 32-bit ARM processor, enhanced graphics capabilities, and improved sound. It also maintained backward compatibility with Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges.
With over 81 million units sold worldwide, the Game Boy Advance achieved significant commercial success. It hosted many acclaimed games and established franchises, solidifying Nintendo's legacy in portable gaming until the release of the Nintendo DS in 2004.
