Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja

Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja is a side-scrolling action platformer, originally developed and published by Data East for the arcade in the early 1990s.

In this game, you take on the role of either Joe or Mac, two cavemen whose women have been kidnapped by a rival tribe. Your primary goal is to journey through a variety of prehistoric locales, from lush jungles and volcanic caverns to icy tundras, to rescue them and defeat the villains. The core gameplay involves moving your character left and right, jumping over obstacles, and attacking enemies. Your basic weapon is a club, but you can find and use a range of other projectiles and tools, such as rocks, boomerangs, spears, and even fire-breathing axes. Some sections allow you to mount and control dinosaurs, using their powerful attacks to clear paths and take down larger threats.

The levels are filled with various prehistoric creatures and hostile cavemen that stand in your way. You need to time your attacks and jumps carefully to survive. The game also features cooperative play, allowing two players to team up as Joe and Mac, coordinating their efforts to overcome the challenges presented. Boss battles at the end of certain stages require specific strategies to defeat. The environments themselves can sometimes be part of the challenge, with hazards like falling rocks or lava pits to avoid.
