About Front Mission
Front Mission is a tactical role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix, originally released for the Super Famicom and later remade for the Nintendo DS. This NDS version brings the classic mech combat and strategic storytelling of the original Front Mission to a new generation of players.
In Front Mission, you step into the role of a mercenary pilot caught in a large-scale conflict on Huffman Island. Your primary objective is to guide your squad through a series of missions, each presenting unique challenges and contributing to an unfolding narrative. Gameplay unfolds on a grid-based battlefield where you maneuver your mechanized units, known as Wanzers.
Combat in Front Mission involves careful planning and execution. During your turn, you select actions for each Wanzer, such as moving, attacking, or using support systems. A key aspect is targeting specific enemy mech parts: disabling an opponent's arms can prevent them from attacking, while destroying their legs immobilizes them. Managing your Wanzers' durability is crucial; damage is specific to parts, and destroyed components are lost until replaced. Between missions, you can customize your Wanzers by equipping different weapons, armor, and chassis, and train your pilots to improve their skills.
The Nintendo DS version of Front Mission utilizes the dual screens effectively, displaying battlefield information on one and detailed unit status or maps on the other. This setup aids in strategizing your moves and keeping track of the overall situation, all while progressing through the game's story and developing your mech force.
