About Front Mission
Front Mission is a tactical role-playing game developed by G-Craft and published by Square, originally released for the Super Famicom in 1995. Set in a near-future world embroiled in conflict, the game places you in command of a mercenary unit.
In Front Mission, you guide your squad through a series of grid-based battles where positioning and unit management are key. Before each mission, you customize your Wanzers, the game's powerful combat mechs. This involves equipping different body parts, arms, legs, and backpacks, as well as selecting a variety of weapons. Deciding whether to prioritize mobility, defense, or firepower for each mech is crucial for success.
Combat in Front Mission involves issuing orders to each Wanzer on the battlefield. You'll move them across the map, choose targets, and attack. A distinctive aspect is the ability to target specific enemy Wanzer parts – like arms, legs, or the cockpit – which can disable their weapons or mobility. Successfully completing missions advances the story, which follows a pilot caught in a global conspiracy. The narrative unfolds through dialogue and mission briefings, adding depth to the strategic gameplay of Front Mission.
