About Touhoumon Another World: Revised
Touhoumon Another World: Revised (AWR) is an extensive GBA ROM hack created by AichiyaSANAE and Ryomu (Nyomu), built upon the foundation of Pokémon Fire Red. Touhoumon is a celebrated derivative sub-genre that substitutes traditional Pokémon with characters from the legendary bullet hell franchise 'Touhou Project', representing various factions of spirits, ghosts, youkai, and gods. These puppets are affectionately known as 'Boneka,' the Indonesian word for doll.
While Aichiya Sanae’s original 1.5 generation hacks were highly praised for their ambitious plot expansions and accumulated a devoted fan base, they were historically notorious for frustrating design flaws. Most casual players avoided them outside of masochistic challenge runs due to artificial padding like absurd level spikes, overinflated base stats, questionable map layouts, and the infuriating quirk of nearly every regular trainer carrying four Full Restores. AWR is the direct culmination of years of passionate development meant to thoroughly patch up these legacy flaws and reinvent the core tactical gameplay experience.
The Revised edition successfully updates the cast up to Touhou 14's roster, rendering all 411 unique Boneka fully obtainable within a single playthrough without any need for trading. The experience is heavily modernized with a Physical/Special split, the introduction of the Faith type to naturally replace the awkward Dragon type, colored natures, and high-quality 1.8-generation custom sprites and cries. Packed with extensive quality-of-life mechanics—including reusable TMs, deletable HMs, a Day/Night system, the B2W2 Repel system, and customized NPCs capable of tailoring your Boneka's IVs, abilities, and egg moves—AWR stands as a premier, accessible sanctuary for both Touhou enthusiasts and retro strategy veterans.
