Sonic The Hedgehog is a fast-paced platform game originally developed by Sega AM3 and released in arcades in 1993. This arcade iteration captures the essence of the speedy blue hedgehog's debut adventure.

In Sonic The Hedgehog, you control Sonic, a hedgehog capable of running at remarkable speeds. Your objective is to traverse a variety of colourful and distinct zones, from the grassy plains of Green Hill Zone to treacherous industrial landscapes. You must leap over gaps, time your platforming carefully, and gather golden rings scattered throughout each stage. Collecting 100 rings grants an extra life. The robotic enemies, known as Badniks, are defeated by jumping on them or using Sonic's spin attack, which can be activated by holding down. Maintaining momentum is key to progressing efficiently through the levels.

Each zone typically consists of multiple acts, and you are challenged to complete the final act within a strict time limit. At the end of certain zones, you face off against the villainous Dr. Robotnik, requiring you to dodge his mechanical contraptions and find moments to counter-attack. The arcade version of Sonic The Hedgehog emphasizes quick reflexes and mastery of Sonic's movement to achieve high scores and clear stages.
