About Shining Force CD
Shining Force CD is a strategy role-playing game developed by Sonic! Software Planning and published by Sega for the Sega CD. Released in the mid-1990s, it brought enhanced visuals and audio to a beloved tactical combat system.
In Shining Force CD, you take on the role of a commander whose mission is to defend the land of Rune from a dark force. You assemble a party of characters, each with their own classes, strengths, and weaknesses, from humans and elves to birdmen and monsters. Gameplay unfolds in two phases: exploration and combat. During exploration, you move your characters around towns and battlefields, talk to people, and advance the story. When combat begins, the perspective shifts to a grid-based map. You take turns moving your units, attacking enemies, and using spells or special abilities. For instance, you might position a strong warrior like Kazin at the front to absorb hits while a mage like Sarah casts offensive spells from the back, or use a flying character to flank a dangerous enemy. The game features four distinct scenarios, each with its own story and playable characters, offering a substantial amount of content.
The progression in Shining Force CD involves leveling up your characters through combat, promoting them to more powerful classes upon reaching certain levels, and equipping them with better gear found or bought throughout your journey. Managing your limited inventory and deciding which characters to deploy for each battle are key decisions.
