The central gameplay loop of Puyo Puyo Tsuu: Definitive Edition involves manipulating pairs of falling Puyos. You guide these pairs left or right and rotate them to land them on the playfield. When four or more Puyos of the same color are adjacent, they disappear. The real depth comes from setting up chains: when Puyos are cleared, any above them fall, potentially connecting with other Puyos to trigger further clears.
Successfully clearing Puyos sends 'garbage' Puyos to your opponent's screen. These garbage Puyos have a black border and cannot be cleared until you make another successful Puyo clear. The objective is to fill your opponent's screen with Puyos, making it impossible for them to place new ones.
