About Puyo Puyo
Puyo Puyo is a tile-matching puzzle game that first appeared in the early 1990s, with this version released on the Nintendo Entertainment System.
In Puyo Puyo, you guide pairs of colored blobs, called Puyos, as they descend from the top of the screen. Your goal is to land them so that four or more Puyos of the same color are touching each other, either horizontally or vertically. When this condition is met, those Puyos vanish. Any Puyos resting on top of the cleared ones then fall down to fill the gaps.
The real depth of Puyo Puyo comes from setting up these chain reactions. A single clear might make a few Puyos disappear, but a well-placed sequence can cause a cascade of disappearing colors, clearing large portions of the screen. Each successful chain you create sends "garbage" Puyos over to your opponent's playfield. These gray Puyos can only be cleared if you make a regular Puyo clear adjacent to them. Managing your own Puyos while simultaneously disrupting your opponent is key to winning rounds in Puyo Puyo. The game ends for a player when their Puyos stack up to the very top of the screen.
