Galaga '88

Galaga '88 is a vertical scrolling fixed shooter developed and published by Namco, released for arcades in 1987. It builds upon the foundation of its predecessors, bringing new challenges and mechanics to the classic space combat formula.

In Galaga '88, you take command of a fighter craft tasked with defending the galaxy from relentless alien fleets. You move your ship horizontally across the bottom of the screen, firing a rapid stream of shots upwards. Enemies appear in formations, dive-bombing your position, firing projectiles, and attempting to capture your ship. Your primary goal is to eliminate all enemies within each wave.

A key feature in Galaga '88 is the ability to combine your fighter with other allied ships. If an allied ship is destroyed, you can fly your ship into its wreckage to form a dual fighter. Collecting a second allied ship allows you to form the formidable triple fighter, significantly increasing your firepower and defensive capabilities. These stages also introduce unique challenges, with some levels scrolling horizontally or even featuring boss battles that require specific strategies to overcome.

The enemy designs are varied, from small drone-like craft to larger, more dangerous vessels, each with distinct attack patterns. Successfully clearing waves and defeating bosses advances you through the game's increasingly difficult stages, pushing your reflexes and strategic use of the triple fighter to their limits.
