DK: King of Swing

DK: King of Swing is a platformer developed by Eurocom and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance in 2005. It puts players in control of Donkey Kong, but with a gameplay twist that moves away from traditional left-to-right progression.

Instead of running and jumping across platforms, the primary way you move Donkey Kong in DK: King of Swing is by swinging. You'll encounter various objects, often vines or poles, that Donkey Kong can grip. Pressing a shoulder button allows him to grab hold, and releasing it at the right moment launches him forward or upward. The goal is to chain these swings together, using the D-pad to aim your trajectory and build momentum to reach new handholds and ascend the game's distinct, vertically oriented levels.

Progression in DK: King of Swing involves mastering this swinging mechanic to overcome environmental challenges and enemies. You'll need to time your grips and releases precisely to avoid falling or hitting obstacles. Donkey Kong can also perform a jump and an attack, useful for reaching distant platforms or dealing with Kremling enemies that populate the stages. Collecting items and finding hidden areas are also part of the experience as you climb higher.
