Ancient Corp. (Ancient Co., Ltd.) is a Japanese video game development studio founded on April 1, 1990. The company is unique in the industry for being established as a family business by the renowned video game composer Yuzo Koshiro, along with his sister Ayano Koshiro (a talented art director/character designer) and their mother, Tomo Koshiro.
The studio is celebrated for its high-quality output during the 16-bit era. Their most notable works include the 8-bit versions of 'Sonic the Hedgehog' (Master System/Game Gear), the critically acclaimed Action-RPG 'Beyond Oasis' (The Story of Thor) for the Sega Genesis, and 'ActRaiser 2' for the SNES. They also contributed significantly to the 'Streets of Rage' (Bare Knuckle) series, particularly regarding its iconic soundtracks.
