About Touhoumon Another World: Retold
Touhoumon Another World: Retold is an extensive GBA ROM hack created by Zeta Sukuna, utilizing Pokémon Fire Red as its foundation. Touhoumon is a beloved sub-genre born from a creative fusion with the legendary bullet hell franchise 'Touhou Project', substituting traditional Pokémon with characters from Gensokyo, known as Boneka (puppets). While the original Another World hack was notorious for its ambitious premise of blending Kanto with a Gensokyo-inspired custom region, it was heavily held back by severe mechanical imbalances, frustrating glitches, broken music systems, and subpar writing.
The Retold edition completely tears down and rebuilds the original project to fulfill its true potential. Rather than using Touhoumon 1.8 mechanics, this hack serves as a fully overhauled and rebalanced Touhoumon 1.5 system, introducing characters up to Touhou 14 (Double Dealing Character). To better align with the lore, the Dragon type has been replaced by the Faith type. The combat system has been heavily elevated with the implementation of the Physical/Special split, new custom moves, modern abilities, and highly competitive enemy teams packed with proper Effort Values (EVs).
Players can embark on a completely redefined journey stretching across multiple vast regions, including a remapped Kanto, the mystical realm of Gensokyo, and the unique region of Rota, all rendered with entirely new tilesets. Most importantly, Retold implements a completely redone music system to forever fix the broken audio cutouts of its predecessor, delivering a highly polished, immersive, and stable tactical RPG for retro strategy and Touhou fans alike.
