About Mother 1+2
Mother 1+2 is a compilation RPG released for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, bringing together two distinct entries in the renowned Mother series. It offers players the chance to experience both the original Mother (known as EarthBound Beginnings outside Japan) and its acclaimed sequel, Mother 2 (EarthBound).
In the first part of Mother 1+2, you step into the shoes of Ninten, a young boy who discovers he has psychic abilities. You journey across a world reminiscent of mid-20th century America, gathering friends and confronting a growing alien menace. Gameplay involves exploring towns, interacting with characters, and engaging in turn-based battles where you use both conventional weapons and your PSI powers. A notable feature is the HP meter that slowly ticks down after taking damage, giving you a brief window to act before losing all health.
The second game, Mother 2, sees you play as Ness, a boy from Eagleland who must gather three friends—Paula, Jeff, and Poo—to defeat the cosmic evil known as Giygas. This installment presents a surreal, contemporary world filled with peculiar characters and situations. Like its predecessor, Mother 2 uses turn-based combat, but it's known for its distinctive sense of humor, its use of PSI powers, and its memorable soundtrack. The compilation allows you to experience the full narrative arcs of both Ninten's and Ness's adventures.
The GBA release of Mother 1+2 was significant as it marked the first official release of the original Mother game in North America. This compilation provides a comprehensive package for fans of quirky, character-driven RPGs.
