Lego Harry Potter: Years 1–4 is an action-adventure game developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, originally released for the Nintendo DS.

The game covers the events of the first four Harry Potter books and films, allowing players to step into the shoes of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. You will navigate through key moments, from Harry's arrival at Hogwarts to the Triwizard Tournament. Gameplay involves exploring iconic areas like the Great Hall, the Forbidden Forest, and various classrooms. You'll use a variety of spells, cast by pointing the stylus on the NDS screen, to interact with the environment, solve puzzles, and fend off creatures and dark wizards. For example, Wingardium Leviosa lets you lift and move Lego objects to build new paths or activate mechanisms, while other spells might be needed to break specific Lego structures or attack foes.

A core mechanic involves smashing Lego objects scattered throughout the levels to collect studs, which serve as the game's currency, and finding Lego bricks. These bricks are essential for reconstructing broken items or building new contraptions needed to progress. Characters also possess unique abilities; Hermione can use her spellbook to learn new spells, and certain characters might be able to reach specific areas or interact with particular objects. The game also features a local two-player co-operative mode, where a second player can join in on the adventure at any time.

Throughout Lego Harry Potter: Years 1–4, you will also discover hidden collectibles, unlock new characters with distinct skills, and revisit areas in a free-play mode to find secrets you missed during the story progression.
