Tirnanog was a Japanese developer founded by Fire Emblem creator Shouzou Kaga, legendary for crafting the acclaimed spiritual successor TearRing Saga.

About Tirnanog

Tirnanog Co., Ltd. holds a uniquely legendary and controversial chapter in tactical RPG history. The studio was founded by Shouzou Kaga, the revered creator and founding father of Nintendo's *Fire Emblem* series, after he departed Intelligent Systems to pursue independent game design with a focus on deep narrative and hardcore strategy.

The developer's crowning achievement is *TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga*, released in 2001 for the PlayStation. Designed as the spiritual successor to Kaga's earlier 16-bit works, the game captured everything hardcore strategy fans loved: deep medieval lore, permanent character death (permadeath), complex class systems, and multi-army split campaigns. It was highly acclaimed for its immense strategic depth and storytelling.

Due to its profound mechanical and visual similarities to Fire Emblem, Tirnanog and its publisher Enterbrain famously faced a multi-year intellectual property lawsuit from Nintendo. Despite the legal battles, the game was a major commercial success, spawning a sequel titled *Berwick Saga* in 2005 on the PlayStation 2. Tirnanog remains celebrated today as a purist sanctuary for tactical strategy enthusiasts.
