Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is a role-playing action game developed and published by Nintendo. It was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987 in Japan and 1988 in North America and Europe.

This installment shifts the perspective from its predecessor, blending a top-down overworld map with side-scrolling action sequences for combat and dungeon exploration. On the overworld, you navigate Link across Hyrule, encountering towns with non-player characters who offer hints and townsfolk who can provide guidance or items. When you run into an enemy on the map, the game transitions to a side-view perspective where you engage in direct combat.

In these side-scrolling segments, you control Link's sword and shield, performing high and low attacks, and blocking incoming blows. The game introduces RPG elements where you can gain experience points from defeating enemies to level up Link's attack power, magic, and life force. Dungeons present platforming challenges, puzzles, and boss encounters, often requiring the use of acquired items and magic spells like the Hammer to break barriers or the Shield spell to protect yourself. Precise timing and strategic use of Link's abilities are necessary to progress through the various areas and overcome obstacles.

Link must find seven Triforce crystals.
