In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, you explore the expansive and seamless open world of the Paldea region. You'll traverse diverse landscapes, from sun-drenched plains to rocky mountains, seeking out wild Pokémon to add to your team. The core loop involves encountering Pokémon, weakening them in turn-based battles, and then attempting to catch them using Poké Balls. As you train your Pokémon, they gain experience, level up, and learn new moves, preparing you for challenges ahead.

The journey in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet offers a departure with its open-world design, allowing you to approach your goals in a non-linear fashion. You might find yourself heading to a Pokémon Gym to challenge its leader, then deviating to investigate a Titan Pokémon's territory, or perhaps participating in school-related activities. A key mechanic is the Terastal phenomenon, which allows Pokémon to temporarily change their type and gain a crystalline appearance, altering battle strategies by giving them a new defensive or offensive typing. The Paldea region presents three main storylines that you can pursue in any order: challenging the eight Gym Leaders to earn Badges for Victory Road, seeking out rare ingredients by defeating powerful Titan Pokémon for the Path of Legends, or confronting the rebellious Team Star bases for Starfall Street.
