Pokemon Recharged Yellow (formerly Pokemon Yellow Cross) is a sophisticated GBA ROM hack created by Jaizu, built upon the foundation of Pokemon Emerald. This project breathes new life into the classic Kanto story by porting it to the superior Emerald engine, introducing the real-time clock (RTC), day-night cycles, berry planting, and Pokemon Contests to the region. True to its roots, you start with Pikachu, who follows you throughout the world using an advanced following Pokemon system.
The game features a massive mechanical overhaul, incorporating the Physical/Special split (PSS) and items, moves, and abilities from Generation 4. A standout visual feature is the 'Stadium-style' color variation, where Pokemon colors vary slightly based on their unique ID (PID)—a detail reflected in following sprites, the party menu, and PC boxes. It even includes richer icons that indicate if a Pokemon is Shiny or its specific personality.
For players seeking a challenge, Recharged Yellow includes built-in Hard Mode, Nuzlocke Mode, and Level Caps. The world is filled with 'Let's Go' inspired touches, including encounters with the infamous Jessie and James.
