The game invites you to explore familiar locations from Johto and Kanto, towns, routes, and caves, encountering wild Pokémon and other trainers along the way. Your primary goal is to collect Pokémon, raise them by battling, and evolve them into stronger forms. Battles are turn-based, requiring strategic selection of moves, considering type advantages, and managing your team's health and status effects. You'll speak with non-player characters to gather information, receive items, and progress through the story, which often involves thwarting the plans of the villainous Team Rocket.
