About Pokemon Crystal Inheritance
Pokemon Crystal Inheritance is an advanced GBC ROM hack developed by DWG, built upon the powerful 8-bit Polished Crystal engine. This unique adventure completely subverts the traditional formula: instead of collecting gym badges to challenge the Elite Four, players embark on an epic, time-traveling journey to unite the Johto region against a dark authoritarian force threatening its past and future.
The narrative splits your adventure between two distinct eras. In Historic Johto, you will confront the power-hungry Emperor Mejimi and his ruthless generals—Bobesh, Kensey, and Adrinna—who are exploiting a massive crisis to consolidate total control. In Modern Johto, you will interact with wayward gym leaders struggling to cope with a rapidly changing world. Your tactical choices throughout this time-twisting narrative will ultimately lead to one of two completely different endings.
The game features a refined, fully accessible Pokedex of 254 unique species (285 total forms), featuring classic Pokemon from Sinnoh, Hisui, and brand-new custom 'Ancient Forms.' Exploration is highly puzzle-centric, tasking players with utilizing time travel mechanics to manipulate the overworld, alongside exploring a complex Zelda-inspired 'Trick House' hidden within the historic Ilex Forest. Traditional features have been heavily overhauled—Kurt now acts as a recurring battle partner to grant extra experience, and a long-form 'Trade Quest' inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages allows you to trade key items across eras to eventually obtain the elusive Master Ball.
A standout feature is the Hidden Palette System, where a Pokemon displays an alternate color palette if its DVs (Deter Values) are maxed out for a specific Hidden Power type. Six specialized NPCs across the region can modify your party's DVs to grant these unique palettes, which are otherwise 128 times rarer than standard Generation 2 Shinies in the wild. For casual players, a dedicated Sandbox Room grants instant items or random Pokemon of any type, Rare Candies are purchasable for $1 at the Azalea Mart, and HMs can be freely overwritten without a move deleter.
