About Life Force

Life Force is a vertical and horizontal scrolling shooter, developed by Compile and published by Konami for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It first appeared on the NES in 1988.

In Life Force, you take control of a small, agile spacecraft tasked with navigating through a variety of challenging stages. The game is known for its unique blend of gameplay perspectives, alternating between horizontal scrolling, where you fly from left to right, and vertical scrolling, where you move from bottom to top. You'll find yourself zipping through what appear to be the internal systems of biological organisms, as well as otherworldly alien landscapes. Your primary goal in Life Force is to destroy the constant stream of enemies and defeat the imposing boss characters that block your path at the end of each zone. These bosses often resemble internal organs or large alien creatures, requiring precise movement and sustained firepower.

A core mechanic in Life Force revolves around its distinct power-up system. Throughout the levels, enemies drop power-up capsules. Upon reaching the end of a stage, you can then spend these collected capsules at a power-up station. Here, you can choose to enhance your ship's offensive capabilities by selecting new weapons like missiles, spread shots, or lasers, or bolster your defenses with options such as speed boosts or extra force fields. The strategic decision of which upgrades to acquire significantly influences how you tackle the increasingly difficult enemy patterns and environmental hazards presented in Life Force.
