Legendary Wings

Legendary Wings is a side-scrolling shooter developed and published by Capcom, released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988.

In Legendary Wings, you take on the role of one of two winged Greek gods, Apollo or Artemis, tasked with defending the world from invading demons. You navigate through various stages, typically scrolling vertically upwards, though some sections shift to horizontal movement. Your primary action is firing projectiles at the waves of enemies that appear on screen. As you progress, you can collect power-ups that enhance your main weapon, increasing its range or spread, and also acquire secondary weapons that offer different attack patterns, such as homing missiles or wider shots.

A key feature of Legendary Wings is the ability to switch between Apollo and Artemis. Apollo fires shots directly forward, while Artemis shoots diagonally upwards. This choice impacts how you engage different enemy formations and boss encounters. Defeating enemies and clearing stages rewards you with points and opens the path to the next challenge, often culminating in a battle against a large boss at the end of each area.
