Gran Turismo 2 is a racing simulation game released for the original PlayStation in late 1999 and early 2000. It built upon its predecessor's foundation, offering a deep driving experience for enthusiasts of the genre.

The game presents two main modes: Career and Arcade. In Career mode, you start with a modest car and limited funds. Your primary goal is to earn credits by competing in various races and challenges across different series. These credits are essential for purchasing new vehicles from a vast catalog of real-world manufacturers, as well as for buying performance upgrades like tires, brakes, engine parts, and suspension tuning. To access higher-tier races and championships, you must pass rigorous license tests, each requiring you to master specific driving techniques.

Gran Turismo 2 distinguished itself with its sheer volume of content, spread across two discs. One disc focused on the simulation aspects, while the other contained arcade-style races and special events. The game features over 650 cars and more than 30 real-world and fictional tracks. Players could also experience a degree of car damage, though it was primarily visual and did not significantly impact performance in the same way later simulations would. The handling model aimed for authenticity, requiring players to learn the nuances of each car's behavior on the asphalt.
