Destiny of an Emperor is a strategy role-playing game developed and published by Capcom, originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991.

Set during the tumultuous Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history, you assume the role of Liu Bei, a warlord striving to unify the fractured land under his banner. The ultimate objective in Destiny of an Emperor is to conquer all of China, overcoming rival factions and their formidable generals. Progression involves managing your growing territory from a strategic overhead map. You'll decide which cities to defend, which to assault, and how to best allocate your limited resources. A critical aspect is recruiting legendary historical figures to bolster your ranks; these officers not only govern your cities but also serve as the commanders of your armies.

When armies clash on the map, or when you launch an assault on a city, the game transitions to a tactical battle grid. Here, your generals directly confront enemy generals in one-on-one combat. The success or failure of these duels can dramatically influence the morale and fighting capability of the entire army involved. Beyond these direct confrontations, success in Destiny of an Emperor requires careful management of your generals' loyalty, ensuring their supplies are adequate, and promoting them to enhance their combat statistics and leadership skills.
