About Circus Charlie
Circus Charlie is a platforming and action game released in 1987 for the NES by Data East. It drops you into the spotlight of a traveling circus, where you take on the role of the titular clown, Charlie.
The core of Circus Charlie involves navigating Charlie through five different circus routines. You'll face challenges like jumping a horse over flaming hoops, balancing on a tightrope while avoiding falling objects, and bouncing your way across a series of platforms on a large ball. In each act, your goal is to collect falling items, such as balloons and coins, while successfully reaching the end of the performance.
Later acts in Circus Charlie introduce new mechanics, such as riding an elephant and making careful jumps, or swinging from trapeze bars. The game tests your timing and reflexes as you adapt to the unique hazards and movement patterns presented in each of the five acts. Successfully completing an act earns you points, and the game continues until you run out of lives.
