Breakers tasks players with selecting a fighter from a roster of eight unique characters, each possessing distinct fighting styles, to compete in a global tournament organized by a mysterious entity. The primary objective involves winning consecutive matches against increasingly difficult computer-controlled opponents or human challengers to reach the final encounter.

The game introduces a combat system emphasizing speed and fluid animation, allowing for the rapid execution of chain combos and specialized super attacks. Breakers utilizes a four-button configuration that facilitates simple yet deep inputs, enabling players to perform guard cancels, dash maneuvers, and recovery rolls to maintain offensive pressure or escape unfavorable positions.

Featuring a vibrant aesthetic typical of mid-90s Neo Geo titles, Breakers provides a variety of stages, each reflecting the home region of the selected character. The game mechanics support both arcade versus play and a single-player story mode, detailing the motivations and rivalries of each protagonist through brief narrative interludes.

Released by Visco in 1996, Breakers remains a notable entry in the Neo Geo library due to its polished combat engine and balanced character mechanics.
