About the Shock Troopers Series
Shock Troopers is a frenetic run-and-gun arcade shooter developed by SNK, first appearing on the Neo Geo arcade hardware in 1997, with its sequel, Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad, following in 2000. These games drop you into intense combat scenarios where precision shooting and quick reflexes are essential for survival as you fight against a global terrorist organization.
The original Shock Troopers presented players with five distinct playable characters: K. Sutter, Valga, Jack, El Dorado, and Rio. Each character can pick up various weapon power-ups, such as the Plasma Gun, Laser Gun, or the devastating Rocket Launcher, to augment their standard firearm. You'll face an onslaught of enemy infantry, armed vehicles, and massive boss machines, often navigating branching paths that offer different routes through the game's levels.
Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad expanded on the formula, offering four playable characters and introducing vehicle sections where you could pilot tanks and mechs. The core gameplay loop in both Shock Troopers titles involves moving your character in eight directions while firing in 360 degrees, dodging enemy fire, and managing your limited ammunition for heavier weapons.
