Rainbow Islands is a vibrant platformer where players control two fairies who use magical rainbows to traverse levels, defeat enemies, and collect treasures.

About the Rainbow Islands Series

Rainbow Islands is a charming platform game originally developed and published by Taito, first appearing in arcades in 1987. It quickly made its way to home consoles like the NES and Master System, becoming a beloved title of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

In Rainbow Islands, you step into the shoes of the two fairy brothers, Bubby and Bobby. Your main tool for navigating the whimsical worlds and dealing with the various creatures is the creation of rainbows. By pressing the button, you can shoot out a rainbow bridge or arc. If you hold the button down, the rainbow gets longer. These rainbows aren't just for crossing gaps; you can also use them to trap enemies. Once an enemy is trapped on a rainbow, you can jump on it to make it pop, sending the enemy flying upwards. Some enemies might require bouncing them off multiple rainbows.

Collecting gems and fruits scattered throughout the levels is also a key part of scoring, and sometimes these items are only reachable by carefully constructing pathways with your rainbows. The game features distinct island worlds, each with its own set of challenges and enemy types that require a thoughtful approach to rainbow placement. The journey in Rainbow Islands sees players working through multiple stages, each ending with a boss encounter that tests your mastery of the rainbow mechanics.
