Later installments in the Myst series, such as Riven: The Sequel to Myst, expanded upon this formula with more intricate worlds and incorporated full-motion video (FMV) sequences featuring live actors, along with deeper narrative arcs. The games are characterized by their non-linear exploration and the absence of traditional combat, demanding the player's intellect to progress. The core exploration mechanic in Myst involves navigating pre-rendered environments by clicking on specific points, which can trigger movement, interactions with objects, or unlock new areas. This approach to puzzle-driven exploration defined the Myst series for many.
