About the Fighting Force Series
Fighting Force is a beat 'em up series developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive, appearing on the PlayStation in the late 1990s.
In the original Fighting Force, players choose one of four distinct characters, each with their own fighting style: Hawk, Mace, Alana, or Jet. You navigate through city streets, docks, and industrial areas, confronting endless streams of thugs and gang members. The combat involves a mix of punches, kicks, special moves, and grabs. If you see a baseball bat, a pipe, or a knife lying around, you can pick it up and use it to deal extra damage. Some levels even let you smash objects in the environment, like crates or barrels, to find items or clear paths. The goal is to advance through each stage, defeating all enemies to proceed to the next area.
The series saw a sequel, Fighting Force 2, which shifted genre significantly. This later installment moved into the realm of third-person shooting, featuring a lone operative, also named Hawk, using firearms and tactical combat in more contained environments. While sharing the name, the core gameplay experience of Fighting Force 2 diverged from the arcade-style brawling that defined the first game.
