The original Driver game presented players with 35 distinct missions spread across four iconic American cities: Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. To succeed, you had to master specific driving maneuvers such as the 'J-turn' and the 'Handbrake Turn' to navigate complex urban environments and escape law enforcement. A key feature of the Driver series was the ability to initiate a 'take over' mechanic, allowing you to abandon a damaged vehicle and commandeer another to continue the pursuit or escape, adding a layer of strategic improvisation. The game's AI was designed to provide a persistent challenge, with police vehicles actively tracking and pursuing the player throughout the levels.

Later installments in the Driver series expanded upon this foundation. Driver 2 introduced the ability to exit your vehicle and enter different cars, and also allowed players to get out of their car and pursue suspects on foot. Driver 3 (Driv3r) further developed the open-world structure and integrated on-foot combat alongside the driving. The Driver franchise consistently focused on delivering high-stakes car chases and a gritty, cinematic atmosphere, making each installment a test of your driving prowess and nerve.
