About StarFish
Founded in 1993 by former staff members of Hot-B, Starfish (later known as Starfish-SD) is a Japanese video game developer. While they initially inherited properties like fishing games and shoot 'em ups from their predecessor, they eventually carved out a legendary niche among hardcore RPG fans.
When the original 'Wizardry' series faded in the West, StarFish became one of the key Japanese developers dedicated to keeping the unforgiving, grid-based dungeon crawler alive. They developed highly regarded titles for handhelds, most notably 'Wizardry Asterisk: Hiiro no Fuuin' (Wizardry Asterisk: Crimson Seal) for the Nintendo DS. The game featured deep party customization, treacherous labyrinths, and the brutal difficulty that old-school PC players loved.
Building upon their extensive experience with the Wizardry license, StarFish eventually created their own spiritual successor franchise, 'Elminage'. The Elminage series retained the classic turn-based combat, deep class systems, and mapping mechanics of early CRPGs, cementing StarFish's legacy as a savior and innovator of the traditional dungeon-crawling genre in Japan.
