About Locomotive Games
Locomotive Games was an American video game developer originally founded in 1997 under the name Pacific Coast Power & Light (PCP&L). Based in Santa Clara, California, the studio initially made a name for itself in the late 90s by developing the Nintendo 64 cult classic 'Road Rash 64', a game beloved for its chaotic multiplayer and hilarious physics.
In 2001, the studio was acquired by THQ and rebranded as Locomotive Games. Under THQ's umbrella, the team shifted its focus primarily to developing handheld ports and licensed games for platforms like the Game Boy Advance, PlayStation Portable (PSP), and Nintendo DS. Their portfolio during this era included handheld versions of major franchises like 'Cars', 'WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW', and 'Destroy All Humans!'.
Despite delivering solid handheld experiences and maintaining a reputation for technical competence, Locomotive Games was ultimately caught in THQ's corporate restructuring and was closed down in 2008. However, their legacy lives on, particularly among retro gaming fans who still celebrate the anarchic fun of 'Road Rash 64'.
