About Amusement Vision Games

Amusement Vision was a pivotal internal development division of Sega (initially known as AM4), formalized in 2000 and led by industry veteran Toshihiro Nagoshi. The studio established a reputation for developing visually stunning, high-quality arcade and console action games, often pushing the boundaries of 3D graphics and physics.

The studio's signature works include the launch of the critically acclaimed Super Monkey Ball series, famous for its precise physics and deceptively simple gameplay. They also collaborated with Nintendo to create the technically brilliant racer F-Zero GX for the GameCube. Furthermore, they contributed to the RPG genre by developing Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon (GBA), linking them to the classic Sega console library.

Amusement Vision's greatest legacy lies in its transition: in 2004, the team evolved into the core development unit that would create the Yakuza (Ryu Ga Gotoku) franchise. Although the 'Amusement Vision' name was later dissolved into broader Sega structures, its personnel and creative vision formed the foundation of the modern Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio.
