About Active Enterprises Games
Established in the early 1990s, Active Enterprises embarked on a brief but memorable journey in the video game industry. The company aimed to carve out its niche by developing games that often pushed boundaries, though not always to critical acclaim.
Their most notable title, 'Action 52,' released in 1991, was an ambitious multi-game cartridge for the NES and later the Sega Genesis. This compilation promised 52 unique games, an unprecedented number at the time. While the concept was intriguing, the execution of 'Action 52' was widely criticized for its numerous bugs, repetitive gameplay, and overall lack of polish across many of its included titles.
Following 'Action 52,' Active Enterprises also ventured into the development of 'Cheetahmen II,' a sequel to one of the more prominent games within the 'Action 52' compilation. However, 'Cheetahmen II' never saw an official retail release, with only a limited number of unfinished cartridges making their way into the public domain years later, further cementing the company's peculiar legacy.
Active Enterprises ultimately ceased operations, leaving behind a distinctive, if somewhat infamous, mark on video game history, primarily remembered for its bold attempts and the unique challenges presented by its flagship product.
